Isaac Robinson turned in the round of a lifetime at the Eastbound and Down at Boundary Waters B-tier in Douglasville, Georgia on Sunday.

During round 1 on the Boundary Waters 1 course, Robinson went a “perfect” 18-under par over 18 holes, carding back-to-back eagles on the par 4 holes 4 and 5. He was 12-under through 10 holes before back-to-back pars on holes 11 and 12. The rest of the way was birdies. The 1092-rated round is Robinson’s highest career rated round, beating his previous best by almost 40 rating points.

After rehabbing an elbow injury for the past six months, Simon Lizotte has announced plans to compete in his first Elite Series event of the year at the OTB Open in California in just over a month.

“I am not throwing at 100% effort or speed and I won’t be doing that for (maybe) the rest of the season,” Lizotte wrote on Facebook. “But after many months of reviewing my injury, rehab, and figuring things out, my therapist team has given me the green light to go back to competing.” (more…)

  14. Watch: Gavin Rathbun Aces Hole 10 At Vintage Open

Gavin Rathbun was already on a heater during round 1 of the Vintage Open and he capped it off by hitting an ace as he made the turn to the back half of the course.

Rathbun had connected on six consecutive birdies at Old Post Park before hole 10, and his backhand skip ace on the 280-foot hole put him 8-under par for the round. Rathbun wasn’t even done for the day, as he later threw in an eagle on hole 17 from 350 feet.

  15. Pro Worlds Has Already Sold Half its Spectator Passes

For the past year, the only way to watch professional disc golf has been to enjoy it online. The COVID-19 pandemic has required that most tournaments bar spectators from attendance.

However, the 2021 PDGA Pro World Championships is approved to host up to 1000 spectators this year in Utah, with the possibility of additional slots opening up if the state continues to make progress in the fight against COVID. (more…)

It looks like noted electronic music aficionado Kevin Jones is now adding DJ sets to his tour schedule

Jones has been known to fill his AirPods with riddim dubstep during disc golf rounds, and over the weekend he filled the wedding reception of Emerson and Mackenzie Keith with good vibes while manning the booth.

  23. WACO Was An Atypical Locastro Win

    Nikko Locastro. Photo: DGPT

Nikko Locastro has a long and storied career filled with Majors and Elite Series victories and more than 120 total wins going back more than a decade. This weekend, when Locastro won at the Waco Annual Charity Open, it was only the third time in his career that he won an event with Paul McBeth and Ricky Wysocki in the field. The last time Locastro won over both world champions was more than seven(!) years ago.

Locastro won the 2014 Gentlemen’s Club Challenge, which has since been renamed the Las Vegas Challenge, while McBeth and Wysocki finished second and fifth respectively. His most notable win since 2014 in Vegas would have been last year at The Preserve Championship, which McBeth did not attend.

  27. Sports Illustrated Publishes Paige Pierce, Disc Golf Feature

Sports Illustrated just published a long-anticipated feature on Paige Pierce and the 2020 disc golf boom.

“The Texan with a warm smile, aw-shucks aura and lean 5′ 5″ frame may be the most dominant athlete at any level of any type of golf—ball, disc, you name it—or perhaps even any individual sport,” writes the author, Will Laws. (more…)

  28. Pierce Edges Closer To 1000 Rating

With the PDGA’s March 2021 player rating update, Paige Pierce has edged closer to becoming the first female player to reach a 1000 rating. Pierce’s player rating climbed to 996, a new all-time high for a women’s player.

In a first place finish at the Las Vegas Challenge Pierce averaged 993-rated golf over four rounds, but several rounds below her rating from the 2020 Samui Swine Classic VII dropped off. Pierce’s 2020 Memorial Championship ratings average over 1000 for four rounds and may be missing from the upcoming April update which could hurt her chances at rising higher. If the 2020 Waco results also drop, however, she could be in for some good news.

  29. On Season’s Eve, A Look At Last Year In Las Vegas

    Garrett Gurthie Las Vegas Ace

It’s the night before the season and if you’re itching for live disc golf coverage, satisfy that urge with a little look back at last season’s battle in the desert.

I advise you to tune in to coverage from the 2020 Las Vegas Challenge. It’s an incredible re-watch.

The event feels like it took place nearly two years ago. The sport, and much of the world, were unaffected by the Covid-19 pandemic that paused and plagued all professional sports just a few weeks after the event. The galleries and lack of masks are an immediate realization of how different the world is from a year ago.

    Connor O’Reilly Las Vegas Ace

Moments after Noah Meintsma draws metal off the tee on hole 6 of the Innova course at the Wildhorse Golf Club, Connor O’Reilly found the chains for an ace on the 222-foot shot while practicing for the Las Vegas Challenge.

O’Reilly is sponsored by Latitude 64 and OTB Discs and is hitting the road full time in 2021 after purchasing a van over the winter. He threw a “fresh” Westside Shield  for the ace. The Texan is currently rated 1013.
