  2. 2018 Pro Masters Worlds In Kansas City Kicks Off

Seven Masters divisions spread out across the Kansas City metro area Tuesday to start a week of competition to decide the 2018 PDGA Pro Masters World Championship.

The Pro Masters 40+ division, which will alternate between the Bad Rock Creek and Waterworks courses, kicked off at Bad Rock with Justin McLuen shooting the hot round of 13-under par 49, holding a 1 stroke lead over Mike Moser and Brian Schweberger. Barry Schultz, Dave Feldberg, and JohnE McCray are all within three strokes of McLuen. First time Masters Worlds participant, and basically local, Eric McCabe is tied in 14th place at 6-under par 56. The 54 person field is the largest division in the event.

  3. Petition Started To Help Save La Mirada Course

An online petition begun by the Southern California disc golf community to halt the construction of a maintenance building and access road at La Mirada Regional Park in California is gaining popularity.

The proposed construction plan would remove a large portion of the Back-18 course. La Mirada has two 18 hole courses, Lakeside-18 and Back-18, and a championship level course that combines holes from both courses. The championship level course — which the planned construction would jeopardize — has hosted a number of significant, national-scale events in the past.

  22. Disc Diver Finds Orc In Oregon – Is It Nate Sexton’s?

Jared Leisek of Adventures with Purpose is a scuba diver who chronicles his river and lake “treasure” hunting excursions on his YouTube channel.

Recently, he merged a couple of his hobbies by diving in a pond at the Hyzer Pines disc golf course in Sisters, Oregon to search for abandoned discs before throwing some holes himself.

Of the 11 or so discs he found in the pond, the most interesting was a pre-flight number pearly white Innova Champion Orc with the name “Nate” scribbled on the back. You know what pro has deep Oregon roots, likes to throw old champ Orcs and has the same name? Yes, it’s obviously Nate Sexton we’re talking about.

  23. Sindre Roar Fosse’s Skip Ace At The Norwegian Championship

If you’re in the hunt for a national title you better bring your ‘A’ game — and bringing your ‘Ace’ game never hurts either.

Sindre Roar Fosse showed out during round two of NM Discgolf 2018, the Norwegian Championship, by forehanding an ace on hole four of the Stovner Disc Golf Park gold layout.

Disc golf has been in the news quite a bit lately. And it was there again earlier this week when Nate Sexton’s appearance at Grand Forks, North Dakota’s Lincoln Drive Park was covered in a story by regional news station WDAY based out of nearby Fargo, North Dakota.

  26. It Was Rainy At Am Worlds

The marathon PDGA Amateur Disc Golf World Championship kicked off Tuesday in Charlotte, North Carolina and just like at the Idlewild Open, players were competing with more than just the course.

The skies opened up during the 9:00 a.m. rounds before letting the sun peak out for a couple hours. Unfortunately, by then, many players had already slogged through a crushing nine or so holes.

Look at what Itzy Galvan was dealing with on the Sugaw Creek Park course.

  27. Linus Carlsson Hits Two Aces At The Open

Linus Carlsson had a very good weekend at The Open in Ale, Sweden.

The Swedish 19-year-old not only finished in third, above K.J. Nybo and Simon Lizotte, after shooting well above his 999-rating for the tournament, he also added two aces during the five-round tournament. They were on back-to-back days in rounds two and three.

Carrollton, Texas amputee who teaches disc golf to children and adults with disabilities had his equipment stolen from his car, but the story doesn’t end there.

Randy Mecca, who lost a leg due to complications from a birth defect, has been using disc golf as a recreational therapy for himself, as well as patients at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and the Dallas Amputee Network. After his lessons, he gives a disc to each participant.

“It helped me get back on my feet–from being a couch potato with an amputated leg to someone who could go out and compete,” Mecca said.

  29. Allen Heading To Idlewild Open Instead Of Staying In Europe

Earlier this week, while reviewing registration lists prior to this upcoming weekend’s tournaments, Ultiworld Disc Golf staff noticed a change from what was observed the week prior. On the PDGA registration pages for the Idlewild Open in Kentucky and The Open, a EuroProTour event in Ale, Sweden, Catrina Allen’s name appeared on both lists. Yesterday, Allen’s name had disappeared from The Open’s page but remained on Idlewild’s list.

Ultiworld Disc Golf contacted Allen about the change, and Allen said that her reason for attending the Idlewild Open over The Open was that the Kentucky event was part of the Disc Golf Pro Tour. She was concerned both about her points standing in the tour and the opportunity for the higher payout that the DGPT event offered.
