  9. Music City Open NT Canceled

    Updated with PDGA comment.

Music City Open organizers announced on the Music City Podcast this week that the PDGA National Tour finale, scheduled for September 25-27 in Nashville, Tennessee, was being canceled for 2020.

Those registered for the NT were given the option to play in the A-tier on the same weekend, playing a championship-level layout at Cedar Hill Disc Golf Course in Madison, just outside of Nashville.

The PDGA said it is currently working on announcements regarding future tournament sanctioning and to expect news on the NT schedule next week. Currently, five of the six PDGA NTs for 2020 have been canceled or postponed.

MCO starts around the 35:00 mark.

  14. 1000-Foot Throw? Tristan Tanner Goes To Work

Tristan Tanner Throws More Than 1000 Feet

On a breezy day in Colorado, Tristan Tanner went out into a field and did something big.

According to Tanner and his UDisc stats, the up-and-comer was able to max out a driver at 1,019 feet, just 90 feet shy of David Wiggins Jr.’s seemingly untouchable world distance record. Tanner said he had a 25 mph tailwind and was using a Latitude 64 Gold Line Ballista Pro. Wiggins was out in the desert with consistent 40 mph winds and a lightweight Innova R-Pro Boss.

  15. 2020 European Open Canceled

The European Open today announced that the 2020 event has been canceled. The PDGA Major, originally scheduled for mid-July, was previously postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“We are no longer looking for a later date for the event in 2020, and will push our 10th European Open event to July 2021,” said Jussi Meresmaa, founder of the European Open, in the statement. “Arranging this magnitude event during these uncertain times became an impossible task for our staff. As much as we wanted this event to happen, we needed to prioritize everyone’s health and safety.”

  19. Who Is The Best Juggler On The Disc Golf Tour?

    @callie_mcmorran_64751♬ Wraith – Y2K Remix – Ro Ransom

Who is the best juggler on the disc golf tour? A week ago the clear answer would have been James Conrad, but after Callie McMorran posted the video above we are maybe rethinking it.

Can anyone else compete with James’s pure skill or Callie’s added dexterity?

We think we’ve seen Eagle McMahon and Simon Lizotte attempt to juggle on vlogs before. And maybe Nate Perkins mixing it up with James in the past.

Are we missing anyone? And do any skills from disc golf actually translate into becoming a good juggler?

  20. Teen Throws More Than 600 Feet To Set New Distance Record For Age Group

Carter Ahrens Disc Golf Distance Record

What better use of a global shutdown than to get out in a field and set some records.

Carter Ahrens is the reigning MJ12 PDGA Long Drive World Champion, and decided he’d be going after David Wiggins, Jr.’s Under 13 world distance record from 2008. On a windy day in Washington state this month, Carter bested Wiggins by almost 50 feet to set a new mark at 624′-11″.

Dion Arlyn, the 2010 WFDF World Long Distance Champion, helped Carter with his technique.

    Disc Golf Reactions

If you’re going to get introduced to disc golf through a YouTube reaction video, it’s probably smart to watch an ace compilation like Country and Snappa.

It’s easy to be wary of content like this, but it seems like both personalities were genuinely impressed by what they were watching.

Maybe now they’ll have a finer appreciation for WTF Richard.

  25. USDGC Exploring Alternate Qualifying Options, Smaller Field

The United States Disc Golf Championship announced today that it was potentially going to be changing the qualifying process and size of the competition field for the 2020 event due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“One of the Championship’s strengths is its rigorous qualifying process,” the statement said. “However, nine qualifying events have either been canceled or postponed as of today. Adding additional days to our traditional Monday Qualifying process is a possibility, as well as a substantially smaller USDGC field size. It is also possible that spectators are limited at Winthrop.”

Winthrop University, side of the USDGC, moved to online classes March 23 and has not yet made any announcements regarding the fall semester. South Carolina began reopening retail stores at reduced capacity Monday, April 20, and is reopening beaches April 21.

  28. Video: Disc Golf Trick Shots Have Evolved To Include Skateboarding

    Skateboarding Disc Golf Trick Shots

This video is a personal affront to someone who can neither putt nor skateboard.

Caddie Disc Golf pulled out his deck and added a disc to the mix to create this one of a kind trick shot video. Very impressed by the ingenuity, and appreciate the failed takes included in the final cut.

These shelter in place measures are really bringing out the creative sides of the community.

  29. PDGA Furloughs More Than Half Of Staff

The PDGA announced today that effective immediately the organization would be reducing its staff by more than 50%.

“I have always said we have the best staff around, and that has been reinforced throughout this whole process,” PDGA Board of Directors President Justin Menickelli said. “We are grateful to all of our staff members and consider them family, and we will welcome them back with open arms once we are on the other side of this crisis.”

Affected staff members have been furloughed — unpaid, retaining health benefits — until standard operations resume. Standard operations includes event sanctioning, which the PDGA said it should have an update on this week.
