Lots of love for the new champion

Nate Sexton’s United States Disc Golf Championship title marked the first Major win of his 14-year career. Naturally, it was a feel good story that has brought an outpouring of support from not only fans, but also fellow competitors.
Between post-tournament interviews and social media posts, here’s a sampling of how other pros have responded to Sexton’s win:
Paul McBeth, third place at USDGC:
“It’s the one hes been working for, and I think I’ve been holding him back is what it looks like [laughs]. We’ve traveled together. It’s awesome to see it. He’s got the kid now, and it’s just gonna be a great memory for him and the family now. It’s incredible to see as a friend and just seeing everything he’s done throughout the years, from helping players and getting people into the game, to commentating, to now USDGC champion.”
Philo Brathwaite, fourth place at USDGC:
“Really proves that the hard work and dedication will pay off eventually. It has for me in a different light. Maybe I haven’t won a Major or a National Tour yet, but I’ve been really close, I’ve been in the neighborhood.
“That’s a hump he’s been working to get over for a long time. His game has been elevating year by year, and he’s been up in that top 10 in the world for a minute. He was long overdue, it was just a matter of time. It was just his week, you can’t be mad at that. He earned it. He earned it.”
Max Nichols, 17th place at USDGC, on Instagram:

Ricky Wysocki, second place at USDGC:
“He’s a friend and a competitor when I’m on the course, but when I get off the course he’s so friendly. He says the right things at the right time. He’s the type of person that, as much as I hate losing, I’m proud of him for winning.”
Paul Ulibarri, eighth place at USDGC, on Instagram:
“A huge congratulations to my boy @frisbeenate on just a pure dominant performance, you are the definition of a true champion, and I couldn’t be more happy that you hold the US Title.”
Gregg Barsby, fourth place at USDGC:
“I’m super stoked for Nate. He’s got a new family, and I know this just means a lot to him. In the grand scheme of things, he’s put a ton of time in. To see it all pay off for him — I played with him [Friday] and he played very, very, very, very solid. Nothing but congratulations for him. I’m really happy to see him come through and break through. I know people have been waiting for him or me or some of thee guys to do it, so glad to see Nate do it. He’s a great guy, great ambassador for the sport.”
