In a bracket of upsets, it was the no. 15 seed to climb the mountain and finish as the 2018 Ace of the Year.
When A.J. Carey stepped up to the first tee at the United States Disc Golf Championship, he was most likely just looking to play a straight shot toward the traditional pin placement dead ahead. Instead, after hitting his line, Carey got the perfect skip off the ground to send his Discmania P3X into the chains for an ace. And did it right after Ken Climo had thrown a ceremonial opening drive off the same box just minutes before to start the tournament.
Playing in his first USDGC, Carey couldn’t have hoped for a better start.
