California company did not sponsor the circuit in 2016

During the Disc Golf Pro Tour’s inaugural season, organizers employed a sponsorship strategy that saw a bevy of brands – both sport-specific and not – supporting the outing. A notable absence among the fold, though, was Innova Discs, who was instead a prominent presenter of the Disc Golf World Tour.
Now, Innova is on board with both tours, as the Southern California-based manufacturer announced yesterday that it has signed on as a “premier sponsor” of the Disc Golf Pro Tour’s 2017 season.
The partnership, which Innova said in a release was a one-year deal, puts the brand front and center at the tour’s nine events.
“We are proud supporters of many activities that grow disc golf in a professional manner,” Innova Team Manager Jonathan Poole said in a statement. “From the Disc Golf Pro Tour, PDGA Tour, Disc Golf World Tour, to the countless other regional and local level events, we can’t wait for the exciting season ahead.”
According to Disc Golf Pro Tour Director Steve Dodge, a premier partner is a higher level of sponsorship that will mean those brands “put forward more resources and are the foundation of the tour.” In addition to Innova, he confirmed that Discraft, Prodigy Disc, and DGA will be premier partners for 2017.
Dodge also expressed excitement about Innova’s commitment to the tour, and pointed to his longstanding relationship with Poole in making the partnership a logical fit.
“Innova was actually the first company to commit to the 2017 season,” Dodge said in an email. “The Pro Tour (DGPT) worked hard in the 2016 season to put the many pieces in place to ensure long term sustainable success. Innova and the DGPT are committed to pushing the envelope and growing the sport. It is time to watch.”
