The Disc Golf Pro Tour and PDGA announced in an email to tournament directors today that it would be changing the dates of the 2019 Idlewild Open, moving the event one week later to July 26-28, 2019.
When originally announced, the Kentucky tournament fell on the same weekend as the European Open, the season’s first Open Major, in Nokia, Finland.
“We polled the players and on a roughly 2-1 response rate — for every one player that wanted to keep it on the date, two said they would prefer it move — the players indicated they would like to have Idlewild not fall on the same weekend as the European Open,” said Seth Fendley, VP of Public Relations for the Disc Golf Pro Tour.
He added, “Additionally, the tournament staff was on board with the change and so we verified the change with the PDGA and it was finalized today.”
Idlewild date changes do not affect much else in the schedule. The 2019 PDGA Professional World Championships are the next premier event after Idlewild, with rounds starting August 13 in Peoria, Illinois.
