Krokhol has been #1 on UDisc for each of the past two years

The Disc Golf Pro Tour moves 500 kilometers south this week, from the #9 ranked course in the world to the #1 ranked course. The Krokhol Open begins this Friday, July 11th, in Oslo, Norway. This will be the final tour stop before back-to-back majors are played in Estonia and Finland later this month.
Last year, Ricky Wysocki held a seven-stroke lead on Jakub Semerád and Väinö Mäkelä going into the final round. Despite an incredible effort from Semerád, Wysocki birdied the final five holes of the tournament to win the event by five strokes, averaging a 1081 event rating for the weekend. It currently stands as the 8th highest event rating of all time for a 3+ round tournament.
In FPO, the field was a bit more limited with just three Americans competing. Kristin Lätt came into the final day tied with Silva Saarinen at 10-under par. While Silva was able to card several birdies, six bogeys including four in the final six holes allowed Kristin to pull away. Lätt won the event by six strokes to claim her fourth win of the season.

Four Things We’ll Be Watching
1. Kristin Lätt is coming off a disappointing loss at the PCS Open, giving up a six-stroke lead on the final day to Eveliina Salonen. Luckily for the field, the red hot Salonen will not be in attendance this weekend. It has been over three months since Kristin’s last win in full field. While this event won’t quite have all of the top players competing, several more Americans have made the trip overseas for this event. With two majors on the horizon, one of which being played in her home country and the other being the World Championships, Kristin will need to get back on track this weekend. In her seven career major wins, Lätt has won the DGPT event preceding them five times, finishing 2nd in the other two instances.
2. Silva Saarinen should be back in action this weekend after sitting out the PCS Open due to a fever. After a strong stretch of play including back-to-back wins, Silva has finished 10th and 8th in her last two events. A win this weekend would not only give her a huge boost going into the majors, it would provide a bit of redemption after failing to close out this event last year. Holyn Handley has yet to miss the top 5 this season, but will be seeing all of these courses for the first time. Holyn did not travel to Europe last season, and won’t have the same familiarity with these tracks as the other top pros. Still, Holyn has proven that she can win on all types of courses and should be in contention this weekend.
3. Reigning champion Ricky Wysocki is quickly approaching a full calendar year without a win. Wysocki’s last win came on July 28th in Tallinn, Estonia, capping off an incredible European stretch that included two wins and a runner-up finish at the European Open. Ricky proved last year that his game is tailor made for Krokhol, averaging a 1081 rating and looking in complete control the entire way. After a 22nd place finish at the PCS Open, Wysocki may be content with simply getting his game back on track before the upcoming majors.
4. Adam Hammes is having a career year, already notching two wins on the season to match his career best. Hammes has averaged 1068 golf over his past five rounds, including three consecutive rounds rated 1082, 1096 and 1082. The Krokhol course certainly suits his game, so don’t be surprised to see another good performance this weekend. The longtime Discraft athlete is also in a contract year and could earn himself a nice payday if the wins keep rolling in.
The Course
Krokhol Disc Golf Course, located near Oslo, Norway, was established in 2018 through extensive volunteer effort. The track sits on a former golf course and has rapidly gained acclaim as one of the top courses in the world. Krokhol has held the #1 spot on UDisc’s list of the world’s top disc golf courses each of the past two years. Nestled amidst breathtaking scenery, the course offers rolling hills, varying elevations, and several water carries in a layout that combines both open and wooded spaces.
