Feldberg up five in 40+

Five new world champions were crowned Friday at the PDGA Pro Masters World Championship at Smugglers’ Notch Resort in Vermont.
Christine Hellstern eagled hole 17 on Brewster Ridge to tie Pam Reineke for the lead in the Women 55+ division, but Reineke would draw last blood by birdieing hole 18 to win the event and Reineke’s second world championship. She is also the 2008 Masters Women champion.
Women 60+ had a similarly eventful finish. Laurie Cloyes-Chupa led wire-to-wire but needed to close out her round with an eagle and birdie to hold off Suzette Simons for the win. It is her first world championship.
On the men’s side, we have a handful of repeat world champs.
Dr. Rick Voakes is a world champion 10-times over after winning 70+ by a very large margin.
Pete May has now won four consecutive 75+ world titles. He pulled away in the final round to win by 11 strokes.
Carlos Rigby won his fifth world championship by shoring up the 80+ division during rounds three and four.
Through four rounds in the 40+ division, Dave Feldberg is now ahead of the field by five strokes at 13-under par 235 total after recording one of only three rounds under par on the day at Fox Run Meadows. All Feldberg’s birdie came early and he had an 11-hole par streak at one point.
Steve Rico and Barry Schultz are tied in second at 8-under par, and JohnE McCray is in fourth at 6-under par.
The division plays a semifinal round at Brewster Ridge Saturday morning before returning to Fox Run Meadows for the final round Saturday afternoon.
Ron Convers remains in first by two strokes in 50+ at 26-under par 222 total. Patrick Brown made up some ground on the lead Friday, as did Kevin Babbit who sits in third.
The division plays a semifinal round at Brewster Ridge Saturday morning before returning to Fox Run Meadows for the final round Saturday afternoon.
Mitch McClellan continues to lead 55+ by three strokes. He will need to hold off Timothy Jiardini and Eric Rainey on Saturday as the division also plays a semifinal and final.
Dave Greenwell continues to see his hold on first in 60+ shrink. The lead is down to three over Gregg Hosfeld with the division playing a semifinal and final on Saturday.
Elaine King has an eight stroke advantage with only a final round on Fox Run left to play in Women 40+. Susan Stephens, who aced hole 1 to start round four, has moved into second place, with Sandy Gast close behind in third.
The 65+ division will come down to Alan Beaver and Johnny Sias with only a final round at Fox Run remaining. Beaver is up by two after retaking the lead in round four.
