Team Finland World Games Athlete of the Year
Last August, Team Finland won the World Flying Disc Federation’s World Team Disc Golf Championships over Team Germany. Now, the team is Flying Disc’s candidate for the World Games 2019 “Athlete of the Year.”
You can vote for Team Finland on the World Games website once per day.
Ultimate frisbee is a consistent presence in the World Games, an international competition for sports that are not included in the Olympics. In 2001, disc golf was a part of the event (Barry Schultz and Juliana Korver won the event), and WFDF is seeking to reestablish disc golf in the future.
“We hope that all Flying Disc athletes and fans will make a strong effort to support Team Finland, Disc Golf, and Flying Disc sports by voting daily in this contest,” said WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch in a statement. “We want to be sure that Disc Golf, which had been on the program of The World Games in 2001, gets the recognition it deserves as we continue to pursue its inclusion back in this prestigious multi-sports event. No matter which country you come from, no matter which Flying Disc disciplines you play, we are all one frisbee family and we need to show our solidarity.”
The next World Games will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, in July 2021. In the Flying Disc discipline, only ultimate is on the program.
