Ken Climo may have been getting more attention with his ceremonial toss during round one to open the United States Disc Golf Championship, but it was AJ Carey on the next card that gave us our first USDGC highlight.
Carey, playing on the 8:40 am card, the second of the event, hit the gap over the rock formation heading toward the traditional pin placement on hole 1. As the disc began fading, it skipped straight off the wet morning dew and into the chains for an ace on Carey’s first throw of the tournament.
Carey, who lists Rock Hill as home on his PDGA page, won the 2017 PDGA Amateur World Championship and is playing in his first USDGC.
He was 4-under par through three holes at the time of publication.
