Disc golf is making its return to multi-sport international competition at the 2025 World Games for the first time since the sport debuted at the 2001 event. The competition starts August 8th in Chengdu, China, at a newly installed temporary course at the Guixi Ecological Park and will feature three days of play.
The format is uncommon: alternating shot match play doubles with three pool play matches, followed by an eight team bracket to decide a champion. Each team will play six rounds in three days: three rounds on day one for the initial pool play, two rounds on day two (quarters/semis for those in the top 2 in their pool), and medal matches and consolation rounds on day three.
Here are the pools, based on the WFDF and PDGA World Disc Golf Rankings with snake seeding:
| Pool A | Pool B | Pool C | Pool D |
|---|---|---|---|
| Estonia | Canada | Finland | USA |
| Austria | Australia | Germany | Czechia |
| Great Britain | Norway | France | Japan |
| People's Republic of China | Lithuania | Latvia | Slovakia |
Each team will face off head-to-head against each of the other three teams in its pool. Each match is worth two points for a win and one point for a tie. In each match, the teams will have to decide ahead of time which player will tee off on each of the 18 holes. Both the MPO and FPO representative must tee off nine times, and no player can tee off more than two times in a row. The top two teams from each pool will advance to quarterfinals.
Here are the 16 teams competing:
