Carrollton, Texas amputee who teaches disc golf to children and adults with disabilities had his equipment stolen from his car, but the story doesn’t end there.

Randy Mecca, who lost a leg due to complications from a birth defect, has been using disc golf as a recreational therapy for himself, as well as patients at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and the Dallas Amputee Network. After his lessons, he gives a disc to each participant.

“It helped me get back on my feet–from being a couch potato with an amputated leg to someone who could go out and compete,” Mecca said.

After about 150 discs, as well as his baseball umpiring equipment, were stolen from his parked car in his driveway earlier this week, both the local and online disc golf community, specifically on r/discgolf, has rallied together to replenish Mecca’s disc stash. The Dynamic Discs Carrollton store is accepting donations in Mecca’s name, and Ideal Discs in Haltom City, Texas is cooperating with police after several discs bearing Mecca’s unique logo were sold in the shop.

If you’re interested in helping Mecca, you may coordinate a donation by contacting DD Carrollton, or by donating directly to Mecca’s foundation, DiscGames.org.
