DGI Group Drops The ‘I’ To Avoid Confusion With Schusterick’s Company

Both brands were announced within days of each other

The DGI Group, the representation firm that last week announced its intentions to bring outside sponsors to disc golf with a roster comprised of the sport’s biggest assets, has changed its name to simply The DG Group, the company said in a news release.

The move was made after Will Schusterick’s new venture, Disc Golf Instruction — which falls under the banner of Schusterick DGI, LLC — raised objections to the similarity in their acronyms and proposed a change. Wayne Caparas, Schusterick DGI’s Vice President of Marketing, said the company had trademarked its DGI and had intentions of employing the shorthand as its primary name “in short order.” The two companies were announced within days of one another.

Rather than a protracted battle, the release said the brands achieved a friendly solution “out of respect for each other, the disc golf community and in keeping with both of our company’s [sic] missions to help grow the sport.”

Though the agency changed its name, it will still hold onto its current web and email addresses during the transition. “We aren’t actively advertising to the disc golf community, but if there is any confusion, this change should make us stand out from Disc Golf Instruction, whenever they refer to themselves as DGI,” The DG Group founder Sam Hassell said.
