The PDGA today announced updated guidance on the COVID-19 pandemic, which includes a month-long extension of the sanctioning suspension and significant event disruptions to Majors and National Tour events.

All Majors and NTs through July 31, 2020, are either postponed or cancelled. Event sanctioning is suspended through at least May 31st.

“The health and safety of members, staff, and all of our communities continue to be at the forefront of our decision-making process,” said PDGA Board of Directors President Justin Menickelli in a statement. “We are heartbroken for those who have been affected by the virus and send our best wishes to healthcare workers and other essential personnel who have bravely guided us through these uncertain times.”

The following Majors have been postponed indefinitely:

  • Pro World Championships, originally scheduled for June 16-20 in Ogden, Utah
  • European Open, originally scheduled for July 16-19 in Nokia, Finland
  • Amateur World Championships, originally scheduled for July 25-August 1 in Orlando, FL

The following Majors have been canceled and are set to return in 2021:

  • US Amateur Championships, originally scheduled for June 5-7 in Milford, MI
  • Junior World Championships, originally scheduled for July 8-11 in Emporia, KS

The Beaver State Fling, a 2020 National Tour event in late June in Oregon, has also been postponed. The PDGA did not give any further details about the rescheduling of the postponed events at this time.

The PDGA said that Majors and NTs “draw larger attendance, require more travel by players and staff, and require considerable resources that make them more susceptible to the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19.”

The PDGA did note that they will soon work with Country, State, and Provincial Coordinators to offer waivers to their event sanctioning suspension in regions where governments are allowing sporting events to return.
