The RUMBLE Preview: Quad City Disc Jockeys

With Jomez in town, the pros follow

The “Jomez Tour” rolls on this weekend in Moline, Illinois. As we have seen throughout this season, A-tier events which were decently attended by top touring players in years past have been drawing deeper and more high profile fields due in large part to the presence of JomezPro filming the action.

This weekend, we will be keeping our eyes on The Rumble. Paul McBeth, Cale Leiviska, Michael Johansen, and 21 more 1000+ rated players will be tackling the West Lake and Camden II courses over three rounds.

There is no one playing hotter than McBeth is right now. The early season putting woes are gone, and he has said he’s feeling very confident off the tee. McBeth won the event in 2015, the last year he participated, and should be the favorite to take another W ahead of next week’s Glass Blown Open. Last year’s champion, Adam Hammes, will be looking to take down McBeth in another 2019 A-tier to defend his title. It took a 1034-rated weekend average to win in 2018, we expect that number to be much higher this weekend.

There’s a similar increase in talent on the women’s side with three more players rated over 900 in this year’s field than last. Vanessa Van Dyken may be the favorite as she has finished fifth in two Disc Golf Pro Tour events this season, and is the top rated woman in attendance. Holly Finley finished second at the 2018 Rumble and is likely the biggest threat to Van Dyken. Finley is second on tour in C1X putting percentage right now, though only has two qualifying events.

West Lake Disc Golf Course

The Course

Both Open divisions will play the West Lake and Camden II courses. West Lake will be played Friday and Sunday, and Camden II will host round two.

West Lake: 24 holes, MPO  – 10,732 feet, par 87; FPO – 7,251 feet, par 75

This course is long, with distance and extra holes to boot. Water comes into play often, and narrow landing zones are also a common theme. Several par 4s and 5s dot the track.

Camden II: 18 holes, MPO  – 6,884 feet, par 62; FPO – 6,884 feet, par 62

Definitely shorter than West Lake, but also much more wooded and technical. Get off the fairway and you’re in trouble.
