Pros To Battle For Big Money At Match Play World Championship

Dynamic Discs introduces new end-of-season event

matchplay-world-championship-udisc-logoDynamics Discs announced its most recent foray into the match play event format and is inviting the pros this time around with the reward of a big cash purse.

Doug Bjerkaas, Dynamic Discs Events Coordinator, announced the format for the inaugural Match Play World Championship last Thursday night, and a top prize of $15,000 for the winner. The field of 64 is open to all MPO players rated 1000 or better as of April 17, 2018, and FPO players rated 920 or better. There will be no cap on the number of players eligible, but only the top 60 MPO players and top 4 FPO players will make the final field of 64. Both MPO and FPO will compete in the same bracket.

“We’re looking to get the top players in the world to sign up for this and participate,” said Bjerkaas. “The prizes are fantastic.”

To go along with the $15,000 first place, second will receive $10,000, third $5,000 and fourth place $3,000. Places fifth through eighth will each receive $1,000. The final four players in the bracket will compete in Emporia, Kansas October 30th and November 1st later this year. The courses have yet to be determined. Ogio announced at the Glass Blown Open it would be providing $25,000 of the added cash for the event.

At the time of publication, seven players were signed up for the event: Simon Lizotte, Eric McCabe, Dave Feldberg, Paul Ulibarri, Joel Freeman, Jake Lauber and Zackeriath Johnson.

Until the final four travel to Emporia, each round matchup is coordinated by the players, who will determine a suitable location to complete their match. If two players are unable to coordinate a time to play, the MPWC tournament staff will make a decision on who advances from that match based on the efforts of the two players to make the match happen.

The rules state: “While this is somewhat arbitrary, it seems to be the fairest way to determine who advances when players are not able to get their matches complete in the required timeframes.” The full schedule for each round and deadlines to complete each matchup can be found at the MPWC website.

UDisc Live will be managing the bracket and scoring and will release the field of 64 along with Dynamic Discs during a bracket reveal show May 27th. Registration for the event opened Friday, May 11th and closes May 25th.

A bracket challenge will also be available for those following at home to make picks on each round. UDisc Live will also power the bracket challenge.

Players are encouraged to promote their early round matchups and, if possible, have them filmed via Facebook Live or post-produced video coverage. You can watch the full video announcement below.
