Weekend Rewind: Johansen Outlasts McBeth, Dickerson For Fall Colors Win

King, Hokom, Wysocki also victorious

After 36 holes and a combined average rating just shy of 1050, Michael Johansen, Paul McBeth, and Chris Dickerson took a three-way tie into the third round of the 20th Annual Fall Colors in Williamsburg, Virginia. Johansen then caught fire, carding an early eagle at New Quarter Park before closing the round with five consecutive birdies to take a two-shot lead into the final nine.

That was all the North Carolina pro would need, as he and McBeth pushed in the finals and Johansen emerged with a 25-under par 185 for the win. Dickerson’s 1038-rated final was good enough to leapfrog into second place with a 24-under par 186, while McBeth slipped to third with his 23-under par total. Andrew Fish added to his strong season, finishing in fourth place with an 18-under par 192, while James Conrad rounded out the top 5 with a 10-under par 200.

In the Open Women’s division, Elaine King took her fourth A-Tier victory of the year with a 6-over par 189 performance. The five-time PDGA World Champion has now won 13 events in 2017.

Ricky Wysocki opened play at the 4th Annual Buffalo Run with a 1079-rated 17-under par and never looked back, cruising to a seven-shot win at the McAlester, Oklahoma, A-Tier. The reigning PDGA World Champion’s 43-under par 145 netted him a $900 payday and topped Gregg Barsby, who came in second place with a 36-under par 152 during the three-round affair. Oklahoma pro Coda Hatfield took third place with a 35-under par 153, while Kevin Jones and Brandon Cawthorne tied for fourth place with 30-under par 158s. Jennifer Allen won the two-player Open Women’s division with a 3-under par 185.

Ninety-one competitors took to Vista del Camino Park in Scottsdale, Arizona, for the 12th Annual Phoenix Ladies Open, with Sarah Hokom notching her seventh win of the season out of the nine-player Open Women’s bracket. The California pro’s 18-under par 96 at the one-day, two-round tournament gave her a three-stroke margin over Las Vegas’s Vanessa Van De Venter, who tossed a 15-under par 99. Catrina Allen took third place after a 13-under par 101, while Kona Panis came in fourth place with a 4-under par 110.

In other weekend action, Paul Ulibarri took down the Utah State Championships; Ben Wiggins came out on top at the ACDGC-Dynamic Discs Wichita Round Up; and Matt Dollar won the Georgia Flying Disc Festival.
